We have received influenza vaccine (shot) for children aged 6 months to 36 months. The state received additional vaccine which they were not expecting, and they have passed a portion of those doses on to us.
For age 2 and up without asthma, we still have a large quantity of seasonal Flu Mist. There is still time to be protected from seasonal influenza infection. We have multiple weekday flu clinics. Please call to make your appointment.
For children 3 and up with asthma or immune system problems that require the flu shot, we have injectible vaccine available. Please call our office to schedule an appointment.
Remember that children under age 9 receiving flu vaccine for the first time will require a 2nd dose 4-6 weeks after the first dose.
We recommend seasonal flu vaccine for all children but particularly those with chronic illnesses and children under age 5. Remember that seasonal influenza kills 36,000 Americans each winter.
Please check back frequently as we will update this site as changes occur.

<trackback:ping>http://www.abcasheville.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=21&PortalID=0&TabID=36</trackback:ping>
H1N1 (Swine) Flu vaccine 2009-10

We currently have an ample supply of H1N1 vaccine (shot AND FluMist) for all ages. We will continue to keep you informed of our supply situation.
Remember that this Novel flu vaccine will require 2 doses separated by 4 weeks for children under age 10. Please call to schedule your second dose within the week it is due.
Although the peak of the H1N1 flu outbreak seems to have passed, it is very likely that the virus will persist in our community through the remainder of the winter season. For this reason, we still recommend that your child (6 months old or older) receive the vaccine.
Some of you have had questions about the safety and reliability of the H1N1 (swine) flu vaccine. Go to www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/vaccination/general.htm for further information.
If your child has had a flu-like illness but was never tested, we recommend vaccination, as we cannot be sure that the flu-like illness was truly swine flu.
We will continue to keep our site updated regarding our supply of vaccine.

Health authorities in the United States recommend that for healthy children aged 2 years and older, treatment for uncomplicated influenza or flu-like illness is not necessary.
Children under the age of 2 are considered a higher risk group and should be treated if there is sufficient suspicion of influenza, within 48 hours of the onset of the illness. If your young child has flu-like symptoms (including high fever, headache, body aches, cough, runny nose, or sore throat), call our office to speak further with one of our nursing staff.
We recommend following common sense hygeine practices, such as handwashing and avoiding people sick with febrile respiratory illnesses. As need arises, we will update this website with any further recommendations specific to our patients.
If your child has not received seasonal flu vaccine, we recommend that you call our office to schedule a time for your child to receive it. We also recommend H1N1 (swine) influenza vaccine for all children. For those who have had flu-like illnesses this fall but without a positive flu test, we also recommend vaccination.

Nurses are available to answer your calls between 8:00 am and 7:30 pm.
With the arrival of "sick" season, we are experiencing high phone call volume.
Phones are answered in the order called. Do not hang up and call again or you will lose your place in line.
We will continue to do our best to answer your calls in a reasonable amount of time. The wait can be longer early in t he morning, in the evening and on the weekend because there are fewer nurses available to answer calls at those times.
To reduce your chance of an extended wait on the phone, consider calling our office with non urgent questions in the late morning or afternnoon when there are more nurses available to serve you.
Thank you for your patience!
