Measles Update

Measles update for Buncombe County

Due to ongoing measles transmission in our community, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) recommends that families and physicians consider early MMR vaccination for infants aged 6–11 months who live in or spend time in Buncombe County, or who will be traveling to areas with active measles transmission (currently including Upstate South Carolina).

Please be aware:

- An MMR dose given before 12 months of age is considered an extra dose. Your child will still need two routine MMR doses after turning 12 months.

- The MMR vaccine may cause fever or a mild rash, usually 6–12 days after vaccination.

If you have questions or would like to discuss whether early vaccination is right for your child, please contact our office at (828) 277-3000.
