CoCM - A team based approach to support kids and parents
ABC Pediatrics of Asheville is excited to offer CoCM, a collaborative, team based approach to support our patients and their families
What is CoCM?

Collaborative Care is a style of behavioral healthcare intended to help patients with mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression. It involves collaboration between your child’s doctor, a Behavioral Health Care Manager (BHCM) located here at ABC Peds, and a psychiatrist at Duke University Medical Center. This program provides our patients with a dedicated team that utilizes evidence-based interventions and medication (when needed) to address their behavioral health needs.

Studies have shown that CoCM leads to significant symptom improvement, increased patient satisfaction, and better overall functioning.

Who are the members of our Collaborative Care Team?

Your ABC Pediatrics Collaborative Care Team is
headed by your child’s pediatrician, who they
already know and trust.
Our doctors partner with our BHCM,
Julia Jordan-Lake, M.A., LCMHC, and a pediatric/adolescent
psychiatrist from Duke Health.

How does Collaborative Care work?
-Brief evidence-based interventions during sessions with our BHCM
help teach your child skills that they can start applying
immediately. This helps kids and teens develop strategies to
manage anxiety, depression, and/or ADHD symptoms.

-Regular check-ins with our BHCM to monitor your child's progress
may occur in our office, via a video visit, or over the phone.

- Our BHCM will communicate regularly with the partner psychiatrists from Duke, who will
offer recommendations for your child's care, particularly if medications are prescribed. Your
child's pediatrician will prescribe the medications.
- On average, patients will participate in the CoCM program for 4-6 months, however, this can
vary based on your child's needs.
- If advanced care is needed, our CoCM team (including your child's doctor) will work to help
establish care for your child with a community therapist and/or psychiatrist.
*participation in CoCM requires a visit and consultation with your child's primary care provider, and there may be a waitlist.
